Several rabbis and other Jewish leaders plan to protest Donald Trump's Monday night speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee,
CNN reports.
Rabbis David Paskin and Jesse Olitzky are among the organizers of one such effort, but say they do not want to disrupt the meeting – they only want to voice their displeasure. Paskin said he has 300 people ready to protest with him either by not attending the meeting at all or by walking out silently when Trump is introduced.
AIPAC aims to strengthen the relationship between the United States and Israel, and typically invites all major party presidential candidates to its meeting. Republicans Ted Cruz and John Kasich will be addressing the conference, as will Democrats Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.
But Trump's stands on illegal immigration and a temporary ban on Muslim immigration have drawn the ire of many in the Jewish community, with the Union for Reform Judaism saying Trump has "chosen to take the low road, sowing seeds of hatred and division in our body politic."
The American Jewish Committee condemned "presidential campaign violence," but did not specifically name Trump.
"We do not draw analogies to the rise of communism and fascism lightly, but both of those tyrannical movements rose to power replacing democratically elected governments, by virtue of threats of, or actual, violence against their opponents," the group said.
