Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, called on GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump to release both his tax returns and his medical records.
"If you're going to run and try to become the president of the United States, you're going to have to open up your kimono and show everything — your tax returns, your medical records," Chaffetz said during an CNN interview.
"You're just going to have to do that. It's too important. So both candidates, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, should show both their medical records and their tax returns, absolutely."
Chaffetz, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, says whoever wins the presidency, both must be called into account and release records publicly.
"No matter who wins, we have a duty, a responsibility, under the Constitution to be that check and balance," Chaffetz told CNN. "I don't care who's in the White House. My job is not to be a cheerleader for the president. My job is to hold them accountable and provide that oversight. That's what we do."
During an interview with Salt Lake City TV station Fox 13, the Utah lawmaker said Trump is more trustworthy than Clinton.
Trump has been criticized in multiple corners for not releasing his taxes, including The New York Times.
Clinton released her 2015 tax returns earlier in August. She and husband Bill Clinton have released their returns dating back to 1977.
As for medical records, Trump's doctor released a statement in December 2015 stating that his health was "astonishingly excellent."
Clinton's personal physician released a statement about her health in 2015, as Clinton has slammed suggestions that she is suffering from a variety of ailments.
