Ivanka Trump Slams Hillary for Not Taking Action on Child Care

Hillary Clinton has "been around for decades," but still has not taken action on policies that would allow paid family leave or child care benefits, Ivanka Trump said Wednesday while discussing her father, Donald's unveiled plans for child care and maternity leave.

"We have not been in public office for the last several decades and she has," she told ABC News' "Good Morning America" program. "She could have instituted some of those policies in that role and has not done so."

Trump said she finds the issue of child care an important one. She is a working mother of three, and holds positions both as a top executive at the Trump Organization and as operator of her own fashion line.

She told ABC that at her own business, she's offered eight weeks of paid leave, and is one of only about 10 percent of American companies that offers that. Her father's real estate development company also offers paid maternity and adoption leave for all employees.

On Tuesday, the GOP nominee unveiled a policy proposal, with his daughter by his side, allowing child care expenses to be tax deductible, creating dependent care savings accounts, and ensuring new parents receive six weeks of paid maternity leave. He said Tuesday, his daughter, Ivanka, was the one who pushed him for the initiative.

Meanwhile, Clinton has already proposed a family leave plan, offering 12 weeks of mandatory paid leave with compensation equaling at least two-thirds of a worker's salary, reports The Washington Post.

Trump said his plan would be funded from savings realized by eliminating unemployment insurance program fraud, while Clinton has said she'll pay for her plan through charging high-income earners higher payroll taxes.

Trump's daughter, also appearing on Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program, commented that her father wants to recognize the challenges with "our broken child care system" and propose solutions to those challenges.

"Child care currently is too expensive," she said. "It's disproportionately affecting women who are typically the primary caregivers, even though in 40 percent of cases, we're also the primary breadwinners.

"The fact that 47 percent of the U.S. Labor force is now composed of women, yet we're often obviously taking care of not only our children, but also elderly dependents. So we came up with a great plan for not only child care, but for elder care."

She denied complaints the plan isn't conservative, telling the show that it's "an American plan, a family plan. It's one that's long overdue."

"We need to create a more robust marketplace for child care solutions," Trump said. "The one size all institutional model of child care doesn't fit everyone. If you live in rural communities, you won't have access to that kind of child care . . .

'We really have to tackle the issue of wage disparity in this country, and now even more so than gender, motherhood is the driver of the difference between wages, between men and women."

Trump said on Thursday, her father will roll out a comprehensive plan, including one for tax reform, and the child care initiative will be "budget neutral."
