The former North Carolina chairman of Mike Huckabee's GOP presidential campaign is joining John Kasich's team, the Kasich campaign announced Friday.
Former Rep. Bill Cobey makes the switch now that Huckabee has drop his White House bid after his
poor showing in Iowa last week.
"While serving in Congress with John Kasich, I was able to observe firsthand his extraordinary ability and energy to get things done. John is a proven executive and legislative leader who will make an exceptional president. He has my enthusiastic support," Cobey said in a statement.
Cobey, who represented North Carolina in Congress from 1985-87, is also a former chairman of North Carolina's Republican Party. He also chaired Huckabee's 2008 presidential campaign in the state.
"I'm grateful to my friend and former colleague Bill Cobey for his support," Kasich said. "His extensive experience in North Carolina politics has given him an exceptional understanding of the issues that matters most to voters."
