House Panels Interview IRS Employees in Cincinnati

By    |   Friday, 31 May 2013 10:30 AM EDT

House lawmakers have been questioning employees from the Internal Revenue Service's Cincinnati office as part of their investigation into the agency's targeting of conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status.

Members of the House Ways and Means and Oversight committees were interviewing two employees this week in an attempt to get more information about how and why the targeting began, reports The Hill, noting that four interviews in all would be held in Cincinnati.

According to The Hill, the employees being questioned are Joseph Herr, Liz Hofacre, Gary Muthert, and John Shafer. At least two of the interviews will take place before the Ways and Means committee holds its second hearing on the scandal on Tuesday.

Lawmakers have also interviewed Holly Paz, an official in the IRS' exempt-organizations division in Washington.

House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa cited Paz's testimony during a hearing on the IRS matter last week, noting that she had acknowledged sitting in on a number of interviews conducted for a Treasury audit that outlined the targeting of conservative groups, The Hill reported.
