The head of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce issued a bold prediction for the November election.
"Hillary is going to mop the floor with Donald Trump, that's the reality of it," Javier Palomarez told MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program panel.
The President and CEO of the chamber was on the program to discuss the merits of Hillary Clinton vs. the perceived weekend pivot by Donald Trump to curry favor with the Hispanic community.
"As I said a year ago, right here on MSNBC, you can't unring the bell with the Hispanic community," Palomarez said on the show. "Donald Trump began his political career by denouncing and insulting Hispanics all over this country. This is a case of too little too late. This is a very desperate candidate and no speech is going to change that now."
Palomarez was referring to Trump's weekend meeting with his team of Hispanic advisers, seeking a "humane and efficient" way to deal with the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants living in the country.
Palomarez said he applauds his Hispanic friends who are working on the Trump campaign for trying to do the right thing.
"I commend them for sticking with their party," Palomarez said. "I don't envy their position. … I don't know that they're in his inner circle, they're not even in the circle. … These are Republicans trying to do they best they can to moderate Donald Trump, to summon some sense of normality."
Palomarez said Clinton's work with the Hispanic community is far and above even that of President Obama's.
"Unlike Barack Obama, Hillary has more than four decades of working with the American Hispanic community," Palomarez said.
He added that:
- A young Clinton registered Hispanics in south Texas to go out and vote;
- Clinton has been engaged with the Hispanic community throughout her career;
- Clinton's campaign has great Hispanic talent inside her camp;
- Hillary herself has solicited advice from Palomarez on the stump;
- Clinton understands the challenges of owning a small business.
In late June, the Chamber endorsed Clinton, the group's first-ever endorsement of a presidential nominee, according to the Washington Examiner.
