Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton on Monday accused her Republican counterpart Donald Trump and Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio of treating "fellow human beings with disrespect and contempt" for their treatment of illegal immigrants,
The New York Times reports.
"It just makes my heart sink," Clinton told a rally attended mostly by Latino supporters. "We are better than that."
Arpaio, sheriff of Maricopa County, has been blocked by a federal judge from carrying out raids at workplaces to find illegal immigrants. Trump has come under fire for vowing to build a border wall and deport every illegal immigrant if he is elected.
Clinton accused Trump of "pitting groups of Americans against each other."
"It's just wrong. It’s not who we are," she said. "I do believe we are stronger and more effective when we are coming together."
