Hillary Clinton is getting ready to wage a brutal, down-in-the-dirt campaign against Donald Trump in the race for the White House,
The New York Times reports.
It's a reversal of Clinton's earlier belief that she could easily wipe out the billionaire developer in an effortless landslide.
David Plouffe, manager of President Barack Obama's 2008 campaign, which touted the slogan "Hope and Change," told The Times that Clinton's strategy will be, "Hope and change, not so much. More like hate and castrate."
The newspaper cites three areas of attack the Clinton campaign is focusing on:
- Unmasking Trump as a "heartless businessman" whose real interests betray those of the working-class Americans who support him.
- Using the sexist comments Trump has made about women in a bid to win over suburban women wary of backing Clinton.
- Focusing on Trump's "brash, explosive temper" and how it makes him a bad choice to run the country.
Clinton will also likely make hay of Trump's comments about Mexicans, his controversial immigration strategies and a recent reluctance to refute the support of former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke.
Also entering the fray is Priorities USA Action, a super PAC that portrayed Mitt Romney as a tin-eared business tycoon in the 2012 presidential race and is gearing up to help Clinton in her war against Trump.
Clinton and Trump are expected to be the big winners of the Super Tuesday primaries.
