Hillary Clinton promised free college in her Thursday night acceptance speech for the Democratic nomination for president.
"Bernie Sanders and I will work together to make college tuition-free for the middle class and debt-free for all!" Clinton said. "We will also liberate millions of people who already have student debt."
Sanders, the Vermont senator who battled her for the nomination to the end, made free college tuition a major theme of his campaign, and appears to have at least won the fight to have Clinton join him in the battled.
"It's just not right that Donald Trump can ignore his debts, but students and families can't refinance theirs," Clinton said, in a swipe at her Republican rival who has been criticized for filing multiple bankruptcies in his real estate ventures.
"And here's something we don't say often enough: College is crucial, but a four-year degree should not be the only path to a good job," Clinton said. "We're going to help more people learn a skill or practice a trade and make a good living doing it."
