Hillary Clinton tweeted Wednesday, “we’re all ultimately on one team,” when reacting to the shooting at the Republican Congressional baseball team practice that happened earlier in the day in Alexandria, Va.
House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., was shot along with two law enforcement officers and a congressional aide after James T. Hodgkinson opened fire. Hodgkinson, a Bernie Sanders fan who was reportedly distraught over President Donald Trump’s election, died in a shootout with police.
Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., said he was leaving the field when the shooter had asked whether Democrats or Republicans were practicing on the field.
Thursday night’s Congressional Baseball Game between Democrats and Republicans will go ahead as planned at Nationals Park.
“We’re not going to let incidents like this change our way of life or our daily routine. We’re going to go ahead and play the ballgame,” said Democratic manager Rep. Michael Doyle of Pennsylvania.
