Twitter lit up Thursday for former Sec. of State Hillary Clinton's testimony before the House Select Committee on Benghazi — including the star witness herself.
Even before she began what
CNN predicted might be a full eight-hour's worth of grilling by the special committee, her GOP presidential candidate rivals were busy tweeting out their thoughts on the hearing — and then live-tweeting their reactions.
Front-running Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump retweeted a supporter's observation:
But he wasn't the only politician paying attention.
GOP presidential candidate Jeb Bush also weighed in, blasting Clinton's "incompetent foreign policy":
And Florida Sen. Marco Rubio cheered the proceedings on, tweeting:
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee promised to keep an eye on the hearing.
And South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham took the time to tweet out his praise for steely committee chairman Trey Gowdy.
Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul used his Twitter time to take a jab at the former secretary of state:
Non-politicians were taking stock of the proceeding as well, with an outspoken pair of African-American pundits dubbed "Diamond and Silk" noting they were not liking what they heard.
Millennial generation social media commentator Mashable tweeted the hearing's historic significance, matching up the Benghazi investigation versus the longest-running congressional committee investigations in history.
Tampa Bay Times journalist Adam Smith called the Twitter feed on the proceedings a "depressing reflection of today's polarized politics."
Members of the House Select Committee on Benghazi didn't wait for the proceedings to end before weighing in.
California Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff was active:
As was Kansas Republican Rep. Mike Pompeo:
And Georgia Republican Rep. Lynn Westmoreland.
And the Benghazi Committee's Twitter feed also fueled the online activity.
