Donald Trump may not be a "polished politician," former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani said Sunday, but he prefers Trump over Hillary Clinton, who he called a crook who would be weak on terrorism.
"It may be that he may make more insensitive statements because he's not a polished politician," Giuliani told radio host John Catsimatidis on "The Cats Roundtable" on Sunday. The comments were first reported in The Hill.
Clinton, however, would be weak on terrorism, Giuliani told the conservative talk show host, pointing out that Seddique Mateen, the father of the Orlando nightclub shooter, sat behind the former secretary of State at a rally.
The Democratic nominee's campaign said they neither invited Mateen nor knew he was at the rally.
"This woman had, sitting behind her, the father of a terrorist, and a terrorist himself, sitting behind her at a rally, and somehow that's not bigger news than Donald Trump making an ambiguous statement?" Giuliani said, referring to Trump's comments this week about Second Amendment supporters stopping Clinton from appointing liberal justices to the Supreme Court.
Trump also came under fire from critics and the media after calling Clinton and President Barack Obama the "founders" and "most valuable players" for ISIS, statements he later said were "sarcastic."
