Former Arizona Rep. Gabby Giffords called on Republicans and Democrats to join forces after the shooting at a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Va. on Wednesday.
"I'm so sad. So sad," Giffords said Thursday on ABC News' "Good Morning America."
Giffords was wounded in a 2011 shooting at a meeting with her constituents in Tucson, Ariz. She suffered a brain injury, and today, she and her husband Mark Kelly speak on behalf of gun control legislation.
"Democrats, Republicans… (need to) work together," Giffords said.
Kelly, a former astronaut, agreed with his wife, saying the solution must be "understanding that we're all in this together, that we need to join together to solve our nation's problems," he told ABC News.
On Wednesday, Giffords posted a statement about the shooting on her Facebook page.
"It doesn't matter if you're a Democrat or a Republican… this shooting is an attack on all who serve and on all who participate in our democracy," Giffords wrote in her statement.
