Ebola Victim's Bridal Salon Alerts Clients to Exposure Risk

State and local public health authorities in Ohio, along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, are looking for anyone who might have visited the Coming Attractions Bridal Salon in Akron during or after the time Ebola patient Amber Joy Vinson was looking at dresses there, according to a Facebook posting by East Liverpool City Hospital.

Vinson was at the salon at 1220 E. Tallmadge Ave. on Oct. 11, between noon and 3:30 p.m, according to the posting. Customers who were in the store during that those hours or afterward are asked to call 330-926-3939.

"Please help us get the word out on this by sending this tweet: 'If you visited Coming Attractions bridal salon on Tallmadge Ave on 10/11 between 12-3:30p pls call 330-926-3939 ‪#‎CDCEbola‬, ‪#‎Ebola,'"‬ the hospital asked.

Vinson, a Kent State University graduate, spent the weekend in the area with family planning her wedding. The Dallas hospital nurse was exposed to Ebola when she helped treat Thomas Eric Duncan, who died of the disease on Oct. 8.

Peter Pattakos, a Cleveland attorney, visited the bridal shop to be fitted for a tuxedo for a friend's wedding while Vinson was there, but said he was not worried about catching the disease. "I didn't exchange any bodily fluids with anyone,  he told Cleveland.com.

Officials are concerned that Vinson may have had symptoms as early as Oct. 10, when she flew from Dallas on a Frontier Airlines flight to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport. She tested positive for the disease Oct. 14.

Health workers are contacting passengers on the Friday flight and her Oct. 13 flight back to Dallas, according to Cleveland.com.

A family statement said that all her travels were cleared in advance with health authorities.

"To be clear, in no way was Amber careless prior to or after her exposure to Mr. Thomas Eric Duncan. She has not and would not knowingly expose herself or anyone else," the statement said according to WKYC-TV.

Vinson had earlier purchased her wedding gown and was in the store looking at dresses for her bridesmaids. No store workers have reported any signs of the illness, WKYC reported.

The salon has been closed voluntarily since Thursday.
