Donald Trump has more than triple the support of his nearest GOP rivals in South Carolina, according to the latest
Gravis Marketing poll released Monday.
Trump has 34 percent of voters in the first Southern primary state, while Dr. Ben Carson, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker are at 10 percent each, according to the poll.
The other candidates are in the low single digits, followed by a host of other candidates who have barely eclipsed the poll's margin of error, which is 4 percent.
"This confirms what we have known here on the ground, that there is a tremendous amount of support and excitement about Mr. Trump's candidacy," Trump's South Carolina Director Jim Merrill said in a prepared statement sent to the media.
"Just a few weeks ago, we released a grassroots steering committee of over 100 leaders around the state, and Mr. Trump has drawn overcapacity crowds at the largest venues available with voters who are looking for a businessman and a leader who can 'Make America Great Again,'" Merrill said.
Trump's growing support has not gone unnoticed by the "Washington elites, political establishment and liberal media who continuously, unfairly and inaccurately criticize his platform and exemplary business record," Merrill said. "South Carolinians are all too familiar with this sort of negative campaigning and continue to rise to his defense."
The poll was conducted July 29-30.
