President Donald Trump said Wednesday he knew Roy Moore could never win the general election for the Senate seat from Alabama.

In an early morning tweet Wednesday, Trump explained why he endorsed Sen. Luther Strange, R-Ala., over Moore in the Republican primary.

In the general election, Trump endorsed Moore, who ended up losing to Democrat Doug Jones on Tuesday.

Trump followed up later in the morning, saying that the election outcome "proved that we need to put up GREAT Republican candidates" inb future elections.
