The selection of President-elect Donald Trump's cabinet is akin to a "knife fight," a source told CNN.
The network reports that the process of choosing who will work in the Trump administration is far from smooth, with infighting and disagreements going on.
Trump has named two cabinet members thus far: Republican National Committee chief Reince Priebus as his chief of staff and the Trump campaign's CEO Steve Bannon as his senior advisor.
The Associated Press reported Monday that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is the top choice to serve as secretary of state. Sen. Jeff Sessions, the first senator to endorse Trump, could be secretary of defense.
The majority of the names being floated as potential cabinet picks are Trump backers who have stood with the real estate mogul through his campaign. There is a notable absence of Washington insiders because many established Republicans opted to keep Trump's candidacy at arm's length.
That leaves his inner circle of campaign advisors and surrogates. Another report Monday claimed Trump has inquired about his adult children receiving security clearances, which signals he's at least thinking about the possibility of having members of his family work for him in some capacity when he takes office in January.
