Donald Trump Thursday used Twitter to tear into the all-female panel of
ABC's "The View" after they turned an appearance by backer and former GOP presidential candidate Ben Carson turned into a grilling about the GOP presidential front-runner.
And then he retweeted a follower's attack:
Carson, though, was gracious after his appearance and didn't join in Trump's taunts against the show:
Earlier in the day,
Carson had tweeted that his appearance would be an episode people "wouldn't want to miss," but once he was on the show, its hosts cornered him on his decision to back Trump's candidacy.
Whoopi Goldberg, for one, asked Carson why he had aligned himself with Trump, complaining that he has bashed women, "made countless racist remarks."
"This guy, he's a racist and he's not good for the country," Goldberg told him. "You're Ben Carson! You're so much better than this!"
But Carson defended his endorsement, telling the panel that he could focus on racism, but he prefers to look at the "big picture" and that he recognizes that "we are heading down the exact same path that we have been on all along."
Carson also dismissed questions about statements Trump made about him while he was still seeking the presidential nomination, telling the panel that he has to look at the person "who is most likely to oppose the ruling class that is ruining our country."
