Ted Cruz said Monday in Dallas that Super Tuesday will make the Republican primary a "two-man race," predicting that he and Donald Trump will finish far ahead of rivals Marco Rubio, John Kasich and Ben Carson in terms of delegates.
"Here's what's likely to happen tomorrow," Cruz told reporters after a campaign rally. "Donald Trump is, in all likelihood, going to have a big chunk of delegates. And we are, I believe, going to have a big chunk of delegates. And I think everyone else will be way, way, way behind. At that point it will become abundantly clear this is a two-man race."
"If you can't win states, if you can't win delegates, you're not going to be the nominee," he added, predicting victory over Trump in a two-person race.
Cruz brushed off a question about whether he will cross 50 percent in Texas, the threshold needed for a candidate to scoop up all 155 delegates awarded by the state. If that threshold is not met, delegates will be apportioned.
"We are working to get every vote we can. A win is winning Texas. A win in Texas is very simple: It is winning Texas," Cruz said.
A recent CBS News poll in Texas placed Cruz 11 points ahead of Trump, while a Monmouth poll found him with a 15-point lead. Trump, the front-runner in the Republican contest, leads in other southern states.
