Texas Sen. Ted Cruz's presidential campaign dipped into its cash reserves in February, spending $17.5 million battling front-runner Donald Trump, The Washington Post reports.

Cruz's campaign manager Jeff Roe tweeted Sunday that the campaign brought in $11.9 million in February and has now has only $8 million in the bank.

The number raised was an increase over the $7.6 million raised in January, the Post noted, but the cash on hand is down from $13.6 million the campaign finished out January with.

But Cruz is supported by multiple super PACs that are bringing in extra money to support his effort.
