Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus is a "weak" and "failed leader," Donald Trump's former campaign manager said before Sunday night's presidential debate.

While appearing on CNN, where he is a regular contributor, Corey Lewandowski blasted the party's boss in the wake of Trump's disparaging comments toward women that were made public.

"You know what I saw today and continue to see yesterday? Weak elected leaders who wants to put their own political interest first," Lewandowski said. "Reince Priebus is a great example. Donna Brazile … held the Democratic Party together under the Clinton leadership and all the scandals that happened. You know what happened to the Republicans, we need an apology."

When asked to confirm that he was calling Priebus weak, Lewandowski confirmed he was.

"Not only is he weak, he's a failed leader," Lewandowski said. "And on top of that, the American people are so tired of the people in Washington, D.C. telling them what to do. That's why Donald Trump beat all of the establishment, all the people who are supposed to be leaders of the parties moving forward. Donald Trump beat them all."

Trump's comments from 2005 were made public on Friday. In them, he is heard bragging about kissing, grouping, and trying to have sex with women who are not his wife.
