The FBI's decision to reopen its investigation on Hillary Clinton's private email use is causing a flurry of reactions from conservatives on Capitol Hill and beyond.

FBI Director James Comey told congressional leaders in a letter Friday his agency is taking another look at Clinton's email server, which dates back to her time as secretary of state (2009-2013). The decision could drastically change the outcome of the Nov. 8 presidential election, with Clinton, a Democrat, holding a slight lead over Republican Donald Trump.

Rep. Steve King, an Iowa Republican, spoke to MSNBC about the Clinton email story.

"I watched James Comey's 17-minute presentation [in July] and I thought it was a public indictment of Hillary Clinton and then at the end he said, 'we can't prove intent,'" King said.

The congressman added that Friday's news "plays both ways. It was far better to deal with it earlier than later."

King added that he's not sure if Republican lawmakers will go through with their vow to continue investigating Clinton's email use after the election is over, now that the FBI has reopened its case.

"I don't know that I know enough of the facts to weigh in on that," King said. "It would be great if we could have representatives from the House and Senate involved in the investigation so we don't get another sham investigation."

Rep. Mark Meadows, a North Carolina Republican, told Fox News Congress did not pressure Comey to reopen the case.

"Most of our oversight committee was extremely disappointed with the conclusion, but chalked it up to the fact that we would have to abide by the director's decision. This particular information is not only alarming, but it is a good call.

"Hopefully we will see justice prevail in this case."

Trump touched on the subject during a campaign rally in New Hampshire, calling Clinton's email scandal "worse than Watergate."

"I have great respect for the fact that the FBI and the Department of Justice are now willing to have the courage to right the horrible mistake that they made," Trump said.

House Speaker Paul Ryan praised the FBI's decision and said the national security folks should suspend Clinton's classified briefings in light of the investigation.

Other Republicans aired their thoughts on Twitter:
