A Republican member of Congress said she received a threatening email after Wednesday morning's Alexandria, Va. shooting that read "One down, 216 to go."
CBS News obtained a copy of the email, which was sent to Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., at some point on Wednesday. It appeared to be threatening Republican lawmakers, although there are 238 members of the GOP in the House, not 217 as referenced in the note.
"Do you NOT expect this?" reads the email. "When you take away ordinary peoples very lives in order to pay off the wealthiest among us, your own lives are forfeit. Certainly, your souls and morality were lost long before. Good riddance."
CBS also reports that Tenney's son, a Marine, was recently threatened on her Facebook page. Her spokesperson Hannah Andrews told the network Wednesday's email threat "was particularly disturbing and disheartening given this morning's tragic events."
A gunman targeted Republican lawmakers Wednesday morning while they were practicing for a baseball game that's scheduled for Thursday night. Rep. Steve Scalise, the House Majority Whip, was shot and later underwent surgery. Also shot were a Capitol Police officer, a congressional aide, and a lobbyist.
Police later shot and killed the perpetrator.
