Hillary Clinton ought to be "ashamed of herself" for instigating an "unwarranted" trade of insults with GOP nominee Donald Trump over bigotry toward the black community, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Sunday.
In an interview with ABC News' "This Week," the former GOP presidential primary candidate and now leader of Trump's transition team said Clinton can't now complain having the accusations turned against her are unfair.
"This type of discourse in the campaign is just unwarranted, but it was started by Mrs. Clinton," Christie charged. "The fact is that she’s been the person who started this type of conversation in the campaign. She should be ashamed of herself."
Christie also took a none too subtle swipe at former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani for telling a local outlet that Trump is softening his immigration stance after Christie's recommendation.
"I find that the people who are my best advisers are the people who are smart enough to give me really good advice and smart enough to keep their mouths shut about what advice they give me," he said. "And so if I want advisers that way, that’s the kind of adviser I’m going to be for Donald Trump."
"I’ve said consistently, the advice I give to Donald is to Donald," he added. "So Rudy can talk about whatever he wants to talk about. He’s my friend, I like him a lot and respect him, but I don’t talk about the advice I give to Donald Trump."
