The mother of the man who allegedly drove his car into a crowd in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday, killing one woman and injuring 19, said she thought her son was going to a rally that had "something to do with Trump."

“I told him to be careful,” Samantha Bloom told the Toledo Blade newspaper. “[And] if they’re going to rally to make sure he’s doing it peacefully.”

James Alex Fields, 20, was arrested Saturday and booked on suspicion of second-degree murder. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Charlottesville General District Court. He is from Maumee, Ohio, outside of Toledo.

Bloom said Fields texted her Friday to tell her he had dropped off his cat at her apartment and was going to an "alt-right" rally in Virginia.

"I thought it had something to do with Trump," she told the Blade.
