Donald Trump introduced an ambitious plan for the first 100 days of his administration Saturday because "he knows that we're down to the crux now," surrogate Ben Carson said.
"Really, I'm glad he's beginning to talk this way," the former 2016 Republican candidate told Uma Pemmaraju on Fox News. "This election is not about Democrats versus Republicans. This election is about the status quo, the political class versus 'We the people.'"
In Gettysburg, Pa., Trump outlined his agenda should he win the White House next month. On the first day alone, he said he would move swiftly to end corruption in Washington.
Carson, the retired pediatric neurosurgeon, said that Trump's agenda "will make all the difference in the world in terms of what happens to our children and grandchildren and the country from now on.
"If you look at the platforms and the policies of these two candidates, they go off in starkly different directions."
He added that the program will "help tremendously" in swaying voters toward Trump.
"I have great faith in the wisdom of the American people," he told Pemmaraju. "I do not believe they're as simplistic as many people in the political class think they are and the media think they are.
"They think they can be so easily manipulated," Carson added. "I think many people take offense at that."
