Obama 'Proud' of US Ties With Cameron

Friday, 08 May 2015 08:43 AM EDT

The White House on Friday said President Barack Obama is "proud" of the relationship he has forged with Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron, and looks forward to continued close ties following the Conservative party's decisive election victory.

"This is a testament to the strength of a vibrant democracy," White House spokesman Josh Earnest told CNN.

"The president is proud of the strong working relationship that he's developed with David Cameron over the years, and he's looking forward to continuing to strengthen that personal relationship," Earnest said.

He added that the administration also hopes to "continue to deepen the relationship between the American people and the British people because the close relationship of our governments has served the citizens of our country very well."

Cameron's Conservative party on Friday won a majority in the House of Commons in the general election, allowing him to form a government without the need for a coalition.

Pre-election forecasts of a close contest with the opposition Labour party turned out to be wrong.
