Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson said Tuesday he would consider being Donald Trump's vice presidential running mate if the two had "significant philosophical alignment."
Appearing on Fox Business Network's
"Cavuto Coast to Coast," Carson said the country will get "whatever we deserve" since voters are deciding on the candidates.
"If Donald Trump wins the nomination, what do you think?" host Neil Cavuto asked.
"Then that is what we deserve, and hopefully it will be something good," Carson replied.
Cavuto asked if Carson would consider being on a Trump ticket. Carson said he would be open to discussing it with the front-runner.
"I would have to have major philosophical alignment with whoever it was," Carson said. "And I would have to have guarantees that I could do some substantial things."
Carson said he'd discuss the V.P. position with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz as well, but wouldn't say whom he would no consider running with.
Still, he said, the second position is "really not what I'm aiming to do. I'm aiming to really change this country in the same way that I came up with new ways to do very complex things that people have been trying to do for a long, long period of time."
