Andrew McCabe, the former deputy FBI director fired Friday just two days before he was set to be eligible for full retirement benefits, has received temporary job offers in the federal sector and is considering “all options,” his spokeswoman told the Washington Post on Saturday.
Rep. Mark Pocan, D-Wis., said Saturday he offered McCabe a job to work on election security, “so that he can reach the needed length of service” to retire.
“My offer of employment to Mr. McCabe is a legitimate offer to work on election security,” Pocan said in a statement. “Free and fair elections are the cornerstone of American democracy and both Republicans and Democrats should be concerned about election integrity.”
Rep. South Moulton, D-Mass., said he would consider the same, saying “the Sixth District of MA would benefit from the wisdom and talent of such an experienced public servant,” and Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., told McCabe to call him Monday if he needed a federal job.
“I am serious,” Gutierrez tweeted.
“We have to stand up to bullies like Donald Trump and Jeff Sessions.”
Sessions fired McCabe on Friday, citing "an unauthorized disclosure to the news media" and said he lacked "candor" with Justice Department investigators. McCabe, a frequent target of attacks by Trump, joined the FBI in 1996 and became No. 2 under former director James Comey in 2016.
