New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio are "not bothered" that President Donald Trump has yet to call them following Tuesday evening's terror attack in Manhattan that killed eight people and seriously injured 11, the Daily Beast reported Wednesday.
Asked about the lack of a call, de Blasio, who is a Democrat, said, "I'm not bothered at all, because two senior officials called promptly and offered help, and I think that was appropriate . . . No one up here wants to politicize any of this, and I don't think anyone should be politicizing this, this tragedy, at this moment in time."
Cuomo, who is also a Democrat, said he was not bothered either that Trump did not call.
Instead, the governor said "I am bothered by an attempt by anyone to try to politicize this situation; that plays right into the hands of the terrorists."
Cuomo particularly criticized Trump's tweets casting blame for the attack on New York Sen. Chuck Schumer.
Cuomo said the tweets were neither helpful nor factual, according to The Washington Examiner.
"I think they tended to point fingers and politicize the situation," the governor said. "He was referring back to an immigration policy that dealt with a lottery and blaming people who passed that immigration policy . . . It was a bipartisan law that was passed that had basically no relevance to the facts of this situation."
In addition to De Blasio and Cuomo, New York's two senators and the congressman in whose district the terrorist attack took place all said that they did not receive a call from Trump but were contacted by either the FBI or other officials, according to the Daily Beast.
