Christiane Amanpour to Syrian UN Ambassador: 'How Do You Sleep at Night?'

In a testy interview with Syrian Ambassador to the United Nations Bashar Ja'afari on Tuesday, CNN's Christiane Amanpour asked, "How do you personally sleep at night?"

Ja'afari had spent the entire interview railing against the United States, Israel, and others in the West as the aggressors against Syria, which he described as a peaceful nation.

"We are not training for wars or for aggressing anybody else," Ja'afari said. "We haven’t declared war to the United States or to any of our neighbors."

Congress is holding hearings as it readies for debate over whether to support President Barack Obama's call for limited strikes against Syria for killing his own citizens with sarin gas last month.

At one point in the CNN interview, Ja'afari accused the media of being weapons of mass destruction, saying, "You should lead the public opinion toward the right path."

But Amanpour countered that even the Arab League had kicked Syria out of its organization, and has condemned them.

"I guess I want to know in a final minute or so, how do you sleep at night, Mr. Ja’afari, defending regime government that has caused so much bloodshed and has really crossed the line from any kind of civil war into weapons of mass destruction, into one of the highest crimes of international law," Amanpour said. "How do you personally sleep at night?
