Obama's Unilateral Nuclear Disarmament Dangerous

On Tuesday, CNN breathlessly reported that the industrial base supporting America’s nuclear deterrent is coming apart at the seams. Some of its facilities date back to the Manhattan Project and are literally falling apart.

This is actually not new news. Still, it’s absolutely outrageous that the nation supposed to be the “world’s only superpower” is increasingly reliant upon an obsolete weapons complex — and a nuclear arsenal scarcely more more modern or dependable.

These conditions are playing into President Obama’s longstanding ambition to “rid the world of nuclear weapons,” starting with ours. He’s engineering yet another end-run on the Constitution — this time by having the U.N. do what the U.S. Senate has refused to do. The goal is to preclude permanently the underground nuclear testing we need to maintain and modernize our deterrent over time.

Such unilateral nuclear disarmament must be stopped.
