The Benefits of Milk Thistle

Wednesday, 08 September 2010 10:30 AM EDT

Milk thistle is a native plant of the Mediterranean region and can be found growing in diverse areas throughout the globe. The extract of the Milk Thistle seed, Silymarin, has been used for years to treat chronic liver disease, type II diabetes, and hepatitis C. It contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.

Milk Thistle also lowers cholesterol levels, reduces the growth of cancer cells, acts as an anti-aging remedy and even reduces the effects of a hangover. It's also been proven to boost the immune system to fight off illness, gall stones, and skin cancer.

Milk Thistle is available as an herbal supplement in capsule form, liquid extract, tincture, and complex forms. The complex form is easier to absorb because it attaches itself to the cell membranes easily and offers quicker protection, but any form is considered therapeutic.
