World’s Oldest Person Celebrates 115th Birthday

Besse Cooper, the world’s oldest person, rang in her 115th birthday in Monroe, GA on Friday, reports the New York Daily News.

Cooper was born on Aug. 26, 1896 before the Wright brothers made their first flight and before the invention of crossword puzzles and crayons.

“She still remembers things and thinks clearly and talks,” her son Sidney Cooper, 76, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “But she has her good days and her bad days.”

The woman once explained her secret to longevity in 11 short words: “I mind my own business. And I don’t eat junk food.”

Cooper is originally from Tennessee but moved to Georgia in 1924 to begin teaching and focus on her family. She now has more than a dozen great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
