How to Dress for Work

How to dress for work really depends on several factors. The most important is the dress code. If the company that you work for has a dress code you may be limited as to how much you can work outside those boundaries. Budget and personal style are also two factors that will help with determining how you should dress for work. Dressing for work not only includes clothes and shoes, it also refers to how you wear your hair and make up and if you should wear a beard or go clean-shaven if you are a man. Hygiene should go without saying, but should be kept in tact at all times. Days without a shower or bath isn't an option and that ends the discussion on hygiene.

Dressing for work doesn't have to be complicated. In fact, it should never be complicated. It should be a way to be fashionable (within the guidelines at work) and yet comfortable. It should also fit in your budget. After all, you are there to work and not compete in a fashion contest.

For men, it can be simple. Clean shirt and pants with coordinating shoes. Now a days, it is acceptable for men to wear a full beard. But, it is important that you manicure your beard and keep it well-groomed at all times. The unkempt look is for rock stars and not the office. Hair falls along the same lines as your beard. Keep it neat and washed but always within the dress code for your particular work place.

For women, because there are so many choices, it can become overwhelming. For this reason, limiting your choices should be the goal. With dress code in mind, determine your style. Are you chic, or more the preppy type? Whatever your preference try to keep it simple. Stay away from stilettos and mini skirts and leave those for those nights at the club. Try to remember less is more. That goes for your makeup also. Add splashes of color as opposed to your entire outfit being one bold color. Be creative and maintain your budget boundaries and you will do fine.
