5 Weirdest Dogs

Monday, 11 October 2010 04:59 PM EDT

Have you ever heard of weird dogs? Here is a list of the top five weirdest looking dogs.

1. Bergamasco: This dog has a very unique look. The coat of the Bergamasco has three different types of hairs, which are very thick and mat easily. The mat starts from the spine and goes down the flanks. This dog is actually born with short and smooth fur that eventually mats in a unique way as this weird dog grows.

2. Affenpinscher: This weird dog has earned itself the nickname of Monkey Dog because it has a very primate-like appearance and personality. It has a terrier body and shaggy fur, and a squashed in face that gives it a rather unique look. Even stranger is the fact that the hair is thicker and shaggier around the chest and shoulders than it is around the hind quarters, creating a look that resembles that of a mane.

3. Puli: The Puli is also known for its weird looks. While there are a few different dread-locked breeds, this is one of the more popular and unique ones. The Puli has dreads, which are called cords, that start to form when it is a nine-month-old puppy. This dog requires very demanding grooming, as the cords have to be separated to prevent excess matting from occurring. Interestingly, despite the fact that its coat looks heavy and cumbersome, this weird dog is actually very light and agile.

4. Bedlington Terrier: This dog is famous for its cute looks. This weird dog looks just like a lamb and has a pear-shaped head, triangular ears, and fur that looks exactly like the curly hair of a sheep. This dog was actually bred as a fighter, which may seem strange considering its docile appearance. The terrier is groomed to have longer fur on the head and legs, and shorter fur on the torso.

5. Neapolitan Mastiff: This dog has a weird appearance because of the amount of loose skin that folds over its face. In addition, the dog has wrinkles all over its body, most prominently on the face and the head. These wrinkles actually involve extra care as owners need to clean in-between the folds in order to prevent acne and infection.
