Vermont has strong laws in place to protect the right to an abortion and puts little restrictions on those women who seek it.
The state does not require a waiting period before the procedure or limitations on public funding for
abortion, according to FindLaw. It does not require a woman to undergo pre-abortion counseling and it also allows healthcare providers like midwives and physicians to perform abortions, rather than requiring a licensed physician, as in many states.
Vermont House lawmakers voted 100-43 on a roll call vote in January 2015 to support a measure that asks Congress along with other state legislatures to do what they can to protect abortion, which was legalized under the U.S. Supreme Court's decision in Roe v. Wade, the
politics and news blog Seven Days reported.

“Reproductive rights are under attack in this country,” said Rep. Maxine Grad, a Democrat from Moretown, who proposed the resolution supporting abortion.
Abortion opponents sounded a different tone.
“It’s not something to celebrate. It’s something to pray about,” Rep. Vicki Strong, a Republican from Albany said, according to Seven Days.
Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders a U.S. senator from Vermont, has noted his support for abortion rights as well.
"We are not returning to the days of back-room abortions, when countless women died or were maimed. The decision about abortion must remain a decision for the woman, her family, and physician to make, not the government,"
Sanders said in an April 2012 column he penned for The Huffington Post.
A study by the Guttmacher Institute on nationwide abortion restrictions ranked Vermont third from last of all states, placing Vermont among the
least restrictive, The Washington Post reported.
NARAL Pro-Choice America gave Vermont an A grade on its choice-related laws.
