Best Scholarships for Utah Residents

Tuesday, 07 December 2010 12:54 PM EST

College scholarships give students an opportunity to study in a university of their choice without bearing an overwhelming financial burden. Graduate scholarships in Utah, specially created for those living in Utah, have become immensely popular. Extending financial aid to students is an excellent initiative and Utah scholarships are sought after as they also include grants for research studies based solely on the merit and academic abilities of the students.

The top 5 Utah Scholarships are:

1. The Utah State Board of Regents' Scholarship: This Utah scholarship is for students who have successfully completed high school in Utah. Among the school scholarships currently offered, this Utah scholarship gives meritorious students the added advantage of additional awards apart from the base award of $1,000. Students need to have a score of at least 26 on the ACT and also have a high school GPA of 3.5.

2. The New Century Scholarship Program: This Utah scholarship was created by the Utah Legislature in 1999 to provide scholarships for students who are residents of Utah. The eligibility criterion for the New Century Scholarship Program is either the completion of the math and science curriculum suggested by the Utah System of Higher Education with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 by the 1st of September for that academic year ,or having an associate’s degree in the same subjects.

3. The Centennial Scholarship: The Centennial Utah Scholarship is among the most coveted college scholarships for students. It is for those students who have an exemplary academic record and have graduated early from high school. This scholarship offers $250.00 to the chosen students for every quarter they graduate early.
4. The T. H. Bell Incentive Loan Program (TILP): The TILP Utah scholarship is among the few graduate scholarships in Utah that offer students full tuition and fees to complete their chosen degree as part of Utah’s teacher preparation program. This works a little differently from the other scholarships for students, as the funds provided are treated as a loan that can be paid back by teaching one full academic year in one of Utah’s K-12 elementary, middle, or secondary schools after getting a teaching certificate from the Utah State Office of Education. This Utah scholarship favors students who teach special education, math, or science.
