Tropical Storm Emily moved further into the eastern Caribbean and closer to the Dominican Republic and Hispanola,
CNN reports.
The storm was located 270 miles southeast of Puerto Rico’s capital, San Juan, and is moving due west at 12 miles per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center. The storm is expected to take a northwesterly turn within the next 48 hours.
Tropical storm winds extend 70 miles from the storm’s center but the biggest threat is the rain potential associated with this storm. Some 10 inches of rain is supposed to fall in parts of Puerto Rico.
Watches and warnings have been issued for Haiti, Guadeloupe, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. Those in the Bahamas and Florida have been told to monitor the storm for further updates.
