When "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek showed up to host the National Geographic World Championship show on Wednesday, he surprised the audience with some unexpected accessories: crutches.
When Trebek was asked why he was on crutches he explained, “The answer is: At 2:30 yesterday morning, chasing a burglar down the hall, my Achilles tendon ruptured and I fell in an ignominious heap to the carpeting, bruising my other leg in the process,”
according to the Huffington Post.
According to reports, the 71-year-old and his wife were sleeping at the San Francisco Marriot Marquis when a burglar entered the room and took off with cash and a bracelet. The game-show host followed the thief on foot, injuring himself in the process.
Fortunately, the suspect was soon apprehended by hotel security. Lucinda Moyers, 56, was arrested by San Francisco police and charged with felony burglary and receiving stolen property.
Trebek will undergo surgery to repair the injury on Friday.
