Tony Campolo is an active author and Evangelical minister, living just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has some very strong feelings about how people go about becoming successful. Here are several statements made by Campolo that will demonstrate his philosophy.
As a minister, Campolo travels extensively, speaking at gatherings all around the country. His website reports that he spent several days in 2013 speaking at the Creation Festivals in Enumclaw, Washington. During that time, he discussed success during his sermons at least twice.

The first time was related to a graduate of Harvard Law School who turned down a high-paying salary on Wall Street to instead defend the poor in Alabama. Campolo praised the lawyer when he said, "You don't know how good you are. You had all the allurements of a successful career and you turned it all down to go where Jesus wanted you too – because that's the will of God."
The following day, Campolo's stated in his sermon that, "There is no greater success story than what the church of Jesus Christ is doing in the world today."

Earlier that same year, at an event held at Grover City College, in City Grove, Pennsylvania, Campolo made several other statements on his feelings about success. His first was that, "America is about competitively achieved success and wealth, while Jesus is not."
He followed that statement up with, "The Jesus preached on television is too often a success deity" and "Jesus does not promise you success," meaning financial success.
On the
Red Letter Christians website, which is run by Campolo,
he wrote an article in 2012 that clearly states his beliefs about wealth and success. "There are those who would preach that if we make Jesus our choice in life, each of us will drive a Rolls Royce. Nothing could be further from the truth."
