Low Ratings Force TBS to Cancel 'Lopez Tonight'

Wednesday, 10 August 2011 02:57 PM EDT

TBS has decided to officially cancel “Lopez Tonight,” a late-night comedic talk show hosted by George Lopez, USA Today reports.

The network cited high costs and low ratings through the past two seasons as the reason for ending the show.

Lopez began as an ABC sitcom star and a stand-up comic, but his TBS show was never able to garner the large audiences the network hoped for. In its first season “Lopez Tonight” averaged less than a million viewers and when his show was moved to the midnight slot in the second season his ratings plummeted 40 percent to 546,000.

The show’s last episode will air on Thursday night.
