How to Diagnose Allergies

Tuesday, 07 June 2011 03:58 PM EDT

Although symptoms can help determine if you have an allergy, tests administered by a medical professional are essential for diagnosis.

The following steps and observations can help diagnose allergies:

1. Symptoms of Allergy: Itchy/watery eyes, sneezing, skin irritation/rashes, running/stuffy nose, persistent cough, and wheezing
2. Allergy and Type of Allergy: Remember the 3Ws: When, Where, and What triggers the allergy are important to communicate to your doctor.
3. Allergy Clinic: Allergy clinics are available to find out the main cause of an allergy, bring it under control, and maintain a normal life. All the necessary tests to determine an allergy can be done in an allergy clinic in addition to providing medication and advice to patients.
4. Diagnose Allergy: When diagnosing an allergy, family history and time/seasonal allergy triggers are important factors. Additionally, information about your home, work environment, pet conditions, household, diet, and previous medical history are useful in giving a diagnosis.
