New 'Spiderman' Goes Multicultural

Marvel Comics’ “Ultimate Fallout” Issue 4, out today, will reveal a new Spider-Man to carry on Peter Parker’s legacy following his demise in June’s “Ultimate Spider-Man” Issue 160, reports USA Today. 
 

The new Spidey is a half-black, half-Hispanic teenager named Miles Morales who will find out, much like Peter Parker, that with great power comes great responsibility.

“What you have is a Spider-Man for the 21^st century who’s reflective of our culture and diversity,” Marvel’s editor-in-chief Alex Alonso told USA Today. “We think that readers will fall in love with Miles Morales the same way they fell in love with Peter Parker.”
 

In the regular Marvel universe, Peter Parker is alive and well in his role as Spider-Man; the “Ultimate” series was launched in 2000 to tell a more contemporary story in which Parker was given a different origin and a reimagined supporting cast that paralleled the regular story.
 

Morales’s full story will begin in “Ultimate Comics Spider-Man” Issue 1, which hits shelves on September 14.
