The subject of smart guns has been a hot button issue for many people since they recently came on the market. Smart guns are currently being sold in California, a state with one of the strictest gun laws in the country today.

A Maryland store was also thinking of selling them, but they got such unprecedented backlash from gun owners that they did not move forward.

1. "I don't know anyone who wants a smart gun," said Lee Williams, investigative reporter for the Sarasota Herald-Tribune who writes a gun column, as reported by CBS This Morning.

2. "Only you can fire it," the contact tells the agent. "Less of a random killing machine. More of a personal statement," reports the Daily News.

3. Eric Holder said smart guns would allow citizens to “have the ability to enjoy their Second Amendment rights, but at the same time decreasing the misuse of weapons ..." according to Guns.com.

4. "Many guns are bought and sold on the secondary market without background checks, and that kind of sale would be inhibited with fingerprinting-safety technologies in guns,” gun policy expert, Robert J. Spitzer tells Nick Bilton of The New York Times, as reported by Business Insider.

7. "As a child, I was shot in the mouth," said Omar Kiyani, CEO of Sentinl, which manufacturers a fingerprint-based trigger lock. "We need a solution. We just need something better than what's available right now."

8. Alan Gottlieb, founder of Bellevue’s Second Amendment Foundation, voices skepticism. "The problem is they’re not really smart. There are technical problems," reports Seattle News.
