1. Before Walker’s current role as governor, he served as Milwaukee County’s executive.

In 1993, he entered the political arena after winning a special election to the Wisconsin Assembly, in which he represented a district including Wauwatosa, a suburban community.

Less than a month after Walker became governor in January of 2011, a series of “Walker-backed bills” were passed by the state legislature, including one that would slash taxes for businesses at “a two-year cost of $67 million,” reported The Associated Press.

4. Scott Walker earned nationwide awareness later in 2011 after his proposal of the “Wisconsin budget repair bill,” passed by the Wisconsin legislature that impacted most public employees in Wisconsin involved in the collective bargaining process.

5. Those who opposed Walker’s move initiated a recall election movement, ultimately forced on June 5, 2012, marking the first-ever recall for a governor of Wisconsin.
