Rosacea is a chronic condition that affects the skin and sometimes the eyes.
Rosacea may appear on:
• Cheeks
• Nose
• Chin
• Forehead
• Eyelids
Redness, inflammation, and pimples are the characteristic symptoms of acne rosacea, usually more prevalent in women and fair-skinned individuals. The average age at which rosacea occurs is between 30 and 60 years.
Sufferers of rosacea may observe acne-like swelling, skin eruptions, and prominent spider-like blood vessels on the face. Intense redness of the skin caused by rosacea, known as facial erythema, is the most predominant symptom.
When the skin around the eyes is affected by rosacea, the condition is known as ocular rosacea.
Some the symptoms include:
• Blepharitis, or inflammation of the eyelash follicles
• Iritis, or inflammation of the iris
• Keratitis, or inflammation of the cornea
• Persistently burning and gritty dry eyes
