  1. Take Advantage of Tax Breaks - The state offers several tax deductions for senior citizens and disabled veterans, according to the Oklahoma Bar Association. Homeowners who are over 65 qualify for a property tax refund even if they didn't pay income taxes, and disabled veterans receive a full refund.
  2. Check Out the State's Veterans' Discounts and Incentives - If you're a military veteran, you can save money on some of your favorite recreational activities and basic expenses. The Oklahoma Department of Veterans Affairs notes that all honorably discharged veterans receive free admission to the state's parks and museums. If you have up to 60 percent disability, you can purchase a lifetime hunting and fishing license for $200 and if you have between 60 percent and 100 percent disability, it costs just $25. If you're a veteran with 100 percent disability, you're exempt from the deer gun hunting license, deer archery hunting license, and primitive firearms license. You also qualify for reduced auto tags.

The State of Oklahoma website notes that employers receive significant tax credits for hiring veterans. USA Today even ranked Oklahoma City as the best place in the nation for military veterans to find work.
  5. Find Local Veterans' Organizations - There are several organizations at the state and community levels that provide assistance and information to military veterans. The Veteran Support Alliance at the University of Oklahoma, for example, offers scholarships and other assistance to veterans returning to college. In 2009, the City of Tulsa established a Mayor's Veteran Advisory Council that meets once a month and allows veterans to voice their concerns and discuss issues important to them.
