  1. Guilford, Connecticut - The small shoreline town of Guilford lures retirees with its character and charm. The town was founded by English Puritans in 1639 and features historic sites and legendary tales. Guilford has a population of 22,000, which gives the town a strong sense of community. It is located near the New Haven-Milford metro area placing it close to major highways and rail connections.
