Although belief in the Red Moon Rapture centers on the interpretation of Christian theology rather than the Jewish religion, Judaism plays an important part of the Bible and Israel is fundamental in apocalypse prophecy.

The four lunar eclipses occurring within 18 months during 2014-15 are unique in astronomy since about two lunar eclipses normally appear each year. The four red, or blood, moons, known as a tetrad, appear during the Jewish holidays Passover — in April — and the Feast of Tabernacles — in October.

URGENT: When Do You Think Christ Will Return? Vote Here Now!

Many Christians believe the Rapture will occur during the time of the second coming of Christ. True believers in the Christian faith will be taken up into heaven by Christ. Seven years of tribulation occurs on earth either before or after Christ’s arrival, depending on interpretation. Judgment Day follows Christ’s victories over enemies and unbelievers.

The Bible speaks of end times and refers to the red moon in Joel 2:31 about the sun turning to darkness, “and the moon into blood,” before Christ’s return. Because of natural disasters, wars, and other catastrophes occurring around the world at this time, believers in the Red Moon Rapture are preparing for those final days when Israel is involved in the battle of Armageddon before the return of Jesus.

VOTE NOW: Is Christ Returning?

In recent history, tetrads occurred in 1949-50 during Israel’s war with Arab states and in 1967-68 during the period when Israel recaptured Jerusalem in the Six-Day War. These turbulent events occurred as the eclipses appeared on Passover and the Jewish Feast of Tabernacles. During the four lunar eclipses of 1493-94, Jews had been expelled from Spain.

The 2014-15 tetrad has an eerie parallel with the four lunar eclipses in A.D. 162-163, according to the Red Moon Rapture website. The Ebola virus outbreak, which began in West Africa but threatened countries worldwide, escalated during the recent tetrad. Following the tetrad of A.D. 162-163, the Antonine plague decimated millions of people throughout the Roman Empire. After the red moon on April 15, 2014, during Passover, Muslim terrorists from ISIS began beheading Christians in the Middle East.

There are Christian leaders, even though believing in Christ’s eventual return, who don’t follow the Red Moon Rapture predictions. Pastor Greg Boyd of Woodland Hills Church in St. Paul, Minnesota, said the belief in the lunar eclipse connection is similar to astrology.
